Del: What do you think of the Civil Rights Movement today?

Grant: Things have improved remarkably. The whole nation has gotten involved one way or the other and I think it does well. I never had any problem getting a job. Never victimized. I worked for some of the greatest corporations in America. And I never had any problems.

Del: What do you think is the most important issue African-Americans need to address today?

Grant: Future programs, because things are in a rut. We need to move things along. I think African American education goes fairly well at the universities. And the need for good jobs.

Del: How would you define the relationship between the Black Arts Movement and the Civil Rights Movement?

Grant: Equally, I would account the emotion of Blacks Arts to the success of the Civil Rights Movement.

Del: What is your definition of the Civil Rights Movement?

Grant: Individual right for all individuals in a democratic society.

Del: Control

Grant: Well, we don't control anything major. We control minor things, not major things.

Del: Dehumanize

Grant: Dehumanization is not what it used to be, on the other hand you're talking to a middle-class buck, and I'm not sure about that. I know it goes on but I don't know to what extent we are dehumanized.

Del: Stigma

Grant: Stigma is placed on someone because of dislike by a person or institution because they are black.

Del: Traumatize

Grant: We no longer have problems with it. We go where we want to go. I have no difficulty expressing a point of view. No difficulty talking to someone face to face about issues of race.

Del: Loss

Grant: I don't think loss relates to it, because the Civil Rights Movement was gain.

Del: Identity

Grant: I'm always on top of the world as far as personal identity. The Civil Rights Movement is a part of that.

Del: Survival

Grant: I think the Civil Rights Movement has done a great job.

Del: Inspire

Grant: I think you are inspired to the degree of trying to better your life. College enrollment greatly increased after the Movement.

Del: Hope

Grant: That the future will get better.

Del: Closure

Grant: I think that today people are able to achieve more.
