Portrait by Del Bey Non-profits, human rights, community service. What do you think of the Civil Rights Movement Today? "The Civil Rights Movement is not as strong as it should be. There is a tendency for us to take things for granted and not continue the stride ´as it should be´ to reach the point Martin Luther King Jr. and other leaders of the Movement had envisioned. We have fallen short of that. I think there is a bit of complacency there also, to feel that we have made it, when in fact we have a long ways to go. I think the Movement is not as strong as it has been or it should be at this time." Inspire "People like Martin Luther King Jr., George Washington Carver, Ida B. Wells, and so many others who inspite of adverse conditions inspire many of us to not give up the fight. We felt that we would make it to the end of the rainbow if we continued to hold our heads up. The heroes of our past and our present are the ones who inspire us." |
